Attorney Melissa Miguel is the only child born to Cuban parents, Rodolfo and Tatiana Miguel, in Miami Beach, Florida. Melissa's parents fled from Communist Cuba as children, during the 1960's. Melissa was raised in Miami and graduated with honors from La Salle High School, a catholic school, in 1993. After high school, Melissa moved to Tallahassee, and attended Florida State University. She lived in Tallahassee from 1993 until 1999 and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Masters of Science degree, Cum Laude, from the Florida State University School of Criminology and Criminal justice. In 1999, Melissa moved from Tallahassee to the Tampa Bay Area and attended Stetson University College of Law, where she was on the Moot Court Board. There she earned her Juris Doctorate and has been practicing law since 2003.

Melissa worked as a Public Defender in Pinellas County for one and a half years and then practiced criminal defense law at a privately owned firm in Clearwater for a year. Most recently, she was a sole practitioner, until deciding to join the Edgar J. Guzman Law Group legal team. Melissa has practiced primarily in the area of criminal defense law. She prides herself on representing Defendants in the Criminal Justice System and ensuring that their rights are protected. Moreover, Melissa also focuses on representing clients in the area of Family Law.

Melissa is a member of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida thereby authorizing her to practice in federal court. She is also a member of the Hillsborough County Bar Association, the Clearwater Bar Association, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.
